Unfortunately, not all packages may be used to transport dangeorus substances. They must satisfy ADR requirements and possess appropriate certificate.

What is ADR?

It is a European agreement pertaining to international carriage of dangerous goods by road (ADR), prepared in Geneva on 30 September 1957, ratified by Poland in 1975. All parties to the agreement are listed on the website of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.

ADR Agreement is an extensive legal act, covering with the scope of its regulations a number of fields connected with carriage of dangerous goods. Packages (IBC containers and  steel or plastic drums) for dangerous goods were subject to the examination of construction type , that is a comprehensive examination covering endurance test constituting a simulation of possible events which may occur in the course of exploitation and also which are to confirm admission of a given type of IBC (DPPL) or steel/plastic drum for transportation of particular dangerous good or a group of goods. Examination of construction type are performed by “competent authorities” or authorised unit. A positive result of the examination gives right to label each item of IBC (DPPL) or steel/plastic drum  corresponding to its standard construction type with “UN” designation. Apart from designation UN, additional signs and symbols are placed on a packaging. Together with UN designation they jointly constitute a specific certificate confirming that packaging may be used for dangerous substances for particular packaging group (X, Y, Z).
